Make sure to apply your perfume or cologne from bottom to top, spraying at the ankles to allow
the scent to rise.  Layering is always good.  Layering just means to use related scent products
from lotions to powders.

If you don’t have a “matching” perfumed lotion, simply apply unscented lotion (Aveno makes a
good one), then spray your favorite scent on top of the lotion.  The lotion helps the scent last
longer.

Fragrance sensitivity is on the rise.  In Minneapolis, the overuse of cologne, men’s scents, and
perfume in school hallways has gotten to the point that the school district has seen a need for
a policy addressing the scents.  The primary concern is that the strong scent would trigger
headaches and, for asthmatics, heighten the risk of a respiratory attack.

In the workplace a person emitting a strong scent, whether from perfume or poor hygiene, can
often negatively affect the work environment around them.

Jacqueline Whitmore, a Polk County native and author of "Business Class: Etiquette Essentials
for Success at Work" said that it is perfectly acceptable to address a co-worker who wears too
much perfume, particularly if others may have a sensitivity to it.  Whitmore says the perfume
offender will likely understand, since perfume sensitivity is a common problem.

Wearing fragrance is an expression of one's self, so just be aware of the effects of wearing too
much.  Remember than it takes awhile before the first strong scent of cologne wanes.  Apply
your product a minimum of 30 minutes before heading into a crowd whether at church, work or
shopping!
